Sunniest island Hvar is known due to the highest number of sunny days annually, the island of Hvar is the place where history meets modern and exclusive. If you have ever heard the word ‘Pharos’ in some history lecture, movie or game, know that Pharos is the Greek name for Hvar.
Visitors from all around the world want to experience Hvar’s unique atmosphere. Ornamented gothic palaces, marble streets, all surrounded by the walls built back in 13th century AD. It all adds to the sensation.
Just a hundred of meters off the southwest coast of the main island and south of the Old Town’s harbor lies a group of 16 pristine islands best known as the Hvar’s Arcadia.
Emerging from the azure sea, they are hiding a number of hidden lagoons known only to local skippers. If you want, they will gladly take you on a one-day trip for some good R&R.
Paklenski or Pakleni Islands is a more established name for the islands in modern times, roughly translated, it means Hell’s Islands. However, none of them have anything to do with hell. It’s actually quite the opposite.
The word ‘paklenski’ comes from the word ‘paklina’ which is the local name for the specific pine resin traditionally used in boat building. But, over the years, the original term got a little bit distorted. So now everyone calls this astonishing string of Adriatic pearls Pakleni or Hell’s Islands (cro. pakleni=eng. hell’s).
In reality, we are talking about the only true Arcadia of the Adriatic. Pristine wilderness, beautiful beaches, and lots of sunshine attract people from every corner of the world. A quick boat trip from the Old Hvar’s harbor is all it takes to truly understand what it means to be in harmony with nature.
The oldest and the best-known retreat with nautical marina, Palmižana is a spacious lagoon with the shallow, sandy strand.
Surrounded by the fields of heathers and rosemary bushes that emerge from the dense pine forest, Palmižana is a small paradise. A destination of choice for all of those who are looking to spend a relaxed and peaceful vacation. The perfect summer holiday on the warm, sunny beaches surrounded by the clearest European sea.
And if they feel the need to stir things up, they just head back to the main island.
As we said, in recent times, Hvar established itself as the premier party town of Croatia. And it’s a no brainer as to why.
Cruisers, ferries, and boats that arrive at the Old Town’s harbor are bringing a special kind of people. People, who are eager to experience the mysticism and excitement of the nights of wild partying. It’s the Gothic palaces and fortification walls that create that specific atmosphere for festivals.
It gives off a unique feeling that cannot be found in many places on the planet.
What adds to the entire experience is the tasty and healthy Mediterranean cuisine. There is an abundance of fresh seafood in the sea around Hvar. In addition, high-quality wines, that don’t exist anywhere else in the world, are always on the table.
In fact, many are unaware that Hvar has also been known as the Island of Wine since 384 BS. Today, there are over a dozen wine cellars. Their doors are open for everyone who wants to taste these unique drops of heaven and perhaps bring a few bottles back home.
Out of the entire Croatian Riviera, Hvar takes a special place and for many, it is the #1 Adriatic destination. Once you spend a week here, you’ll understand why people like it so much.
