Prvić Island: Where Nature and Beauty Unite in Harmony

Prvić Island awaits your discovery. It is situated just a ferry ride away from Vodice, in the heart of Dalmatia. This hidden gem, adorned with a mild Mediterranean climate, invites you to indulge in its captivating beauty.

On this enchanting island, two charming villages beckon you: Šepurine, gracing the western shores, and Prvić Luka, nestled on the southeastern coast. Protected by the Ministry of Culture, Prvić Island preserves a rich tapestry of natural marvels and cultural heritage. For centuries, this small haven has been home to vibrant communities. Today, around 400 welcoming locals create a warm embrace for visitors. Fishing, tourism, and the art of cultivating vineyards and olives form the rhythm of daily life.

Yet, what makes Prvić truly special is its connection to the visionary Faust Vrančić. Step back in time to the 16th century, when this island nurtured the brilliance of an inventor, philosopher, scientist, and diplomat. Faust Vrančić’s legacy lives on in the Faust Vrančić Memorial Center, a quaint museum celebrating his life, inventions, and even the world’s first functional parachute.

As the sun sets, indulge in the tranquility of Prvić, where history whispers through the narrow streets of Šepurine. Visit the age-old churches, one dating back to the medieval era, and another, a testament to 19th-century craftsmanship. Allow Prvić Island to captivate your senses, as you uncover its allure and become part of its story.

Prvić Island or „The first one“

Named for its proximity as the closest island to the mainland, at a mere 1000 meters away, Prvić Island beckons with a unique allure. It extends seamlessly from Zlarin Island, connected by coral and sandy ridges, boasting a distinctive composition of cretaceous dolomite in contrast to its limestone-clad neighbors.

The island’s treasures, Prvić Luka and Šepurine, have been meticulously preserved as cultural heritage sites, testaments to their timeless beauty and rich past. The streets still echo with the legacy of stone houses and arcades veiled in cascades of bougainvillaea, while secluded, pebble-strewn beaches frame boundless vistas of the cerulean sea.

Separated by a mere 10-minute stroll or a brief bicycle ride, these villages are tranquil retreats devoid of automobiles, an oasis for those seeking a serene escape. A leisurely walk between these settlements unveils panoramic views of Tijat and the enchanting Kornati Archipelago. Remarkably, Šepurine, once rivaling the population of Vodice, now shelters a mere 250 island residents.

The Franciscan Glagolitic friars have inscribed their significance on the landscape with the Church of Saint Mary, an integral focal point beside the accompanying monastery. In Šepurine, the architectural legacy continues with two sacred structures: the 19th-century parish church of Our Lady of the Assumption and the 17th-century Saint Roko Church, distinguished by its distinctive baroque altar adorned with motifs reminiscent of Venice.
