Zagreb Zoo in December becomes a magical place where even the animals celebrate Advent! Come and visit them with us!
Although Advent in the Zagreb Zoo takes place every year, this year we decided to visit it a little earlier. The beginning of Advent in the city also marked the beginning of Advent in the Zoo. So, we had the opportunity to visit the Zoo already on December 2 and 3.
The walkways and pavilions of the Zagreb Zoo are decorated with thousands of lights. We were able to enjoy the unique architecture of the zoo, founded 98 years ago. A particularly rich program is prepared on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 16:00 to 20:00. On that evening, visitors can take part in Mrak tours, educations, fun games and creative workshops. (If you are planning Advent in Zagreb with the kids – don’t miss the Zoo!)
Mrak tours are tours of the Zoo under the guidance of educators that depart from Education Square at 5, 6 and 7 p.m. This is something we decided to do this year since we have only been to the Zoo a few times. Also, we have never experienced professional leadership.
We have to admit that this decision was a complete hit considering that listening to the presenter is extremely interesting. During the tour, we realized that during a self-guided tour, we rarely read everything that is written on the boards next to the animal enclosures. Of course, the tour leader mentioned some important details depending on the habitat of the animal where we found ourselves, but also certain anecdotes and interesting facts related to the species.
Winter station is the name of the educational corner in Traperska koliba. There the youngest visitors can learn a lot of interesting facts about the world of animals. Educators, among other things, talk about animals’ winter coats and winter sleep. Given that we did not have children in our small team this time, we bypassed the Winter Station. However, if you are a parent who went to Zagreb with children – we assume that this is something that might interest you. Also, our plan is to return to the Zoo a few more times during Advent. Who knows – maybe we’ll decide to visit the Winter Station.
Various decorations, greeting cards and bird feeders are made in the creative workshops at the Interpretation Center of the Protected Fauna of Croatia. Those who want to see what is being done outside the Interpretation Center can view the exhibition The Most Beautiful Inhabitants of the Planet, set up on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the Public Institution Green Ring of Zagreb County.
In the heart of the holiday buzz, the Zagreb Zoo emerges as a hidden gem, offering a unique blend of festive enchantment and wildlife wonders. Illuminated walkways and pavilions invite you to explore the rich history of the zoo. The special Advent program on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays adds a touch of magic.
From captivating Dark tours to hands-on creative workshops, there’s something for everyone in this winter wonderland. As you embark on a guided journey through the zoo, you’ll discover a newfound appreciation for the diverse animal residents and their habitats. Don’t miss the Winter Station for a peek into the animals’ winter habits. So, this December, let Zagreb Zoo be your haven of illumination, education, and festive joy. Come, create lasting memories with loved ones amidst the enchanting world of wildlife and holiday lights!
