6,000 years of history makes sunniest island Hvar quite unique

And the view from the Old Town’s fortress, overseeing the entire archipelago is simply breathtaking.

The ancient Greek settlers built the town of Pharos (now Old Town) in 4th century BC. However, first settlements on Hvar date back some 6,000 years, in prehistoric times.

Hvar is now one of the most popular Adriatic destinations

In the peak of the season, Old Town, the antic, coastal, administrative center of the island welcomes 20,000 people in a single day. They all want to feel this unlikely convergence of nature, antic architecture, and modern setups. All hidden inside Hvar’s many elite hotels and restaurants.

And it’s never boring because Hvar is now known as the party center of Adriatic.

From sightseeing and partying on the main island. To suntanning on Hell’s Islands. Or the other way around

Just a hundred of meters off the southwest coast of the main island and south of the Old Town’s harbor lies a group of 16 pristine islands best known as the Hvar’s Arcadia.

Emerging from the azure sea, they are hiding a number of hidden lagoons known only to local skippers. If you want, they will gladly take you on a one-day trip for some good R&R.

You’ll see the Arcadia of the Adriatic Sea

Paklenski or Pakleni Islands as it is a more established name for the islands in modern times, roughly translated mean Hell’s Islands. However, none of them has anything to do with hell. Quite opposite.

The word ‘paklenski’ comes from the word ‘paklina’ which is the local name for the specific pine resin traditionally used in boat building. But, over the years, the original term got a little bit distorted. So now everyone calls this astonishing string of Adriatic pearls Pakleni or Hell’s Islands (cro. pakleni=eng. hell’s).

In reality, we are talking about the only true Arcadia of the Adriatic. Pristine wilderness, beautiful beaches, and lots of sunshine attract people from every corner of the world. A quick boat trip from the Old Hvar’s harbor is all it takes to truly understand what it means to be in harmony with nature.

And Palmižana should be your first stop

The oldest and the best-known retreat with nautical marina, Palmižana is a spacious lagoon with the shallow, sandy strand.

A destination of choice for all of those who are looking to spend a relaxed and peaceful vacation. The perfect summer holiday on the warm, sunny beaches surrounded by the clearest European sea.

And if they feel the need to stir things up, they just head back to the main island.

Back to wild partying on sunniest island Hvar

As we said, in recent times, Hvar established itself as the premier party town of Croatia. And it’s n brainer why.

Cruisers, ferries, and boats that arrive at the Old Town’s harbor are bringing a special kind of people. People, who are eager to experience the mysticism and excitement of the nights of wild partying.  It’s the Gothic palaces and fortification walls that create that specific atmosphere for festivals.
