Mayor Dario Hrebak happily shared in a press conference that Bjelovar has received approval for the Bjelovar Thermes project. This project is significant, costing a total of 38 million euros without VAT. The mayor emphasized that this project, primarily focused on a swimming pool complex, is a big deal for the city.
The swimming pool complex is not just any pool; it will have an Olympic-sized pool. This means it can be used for training professional swimmers. Important groups like the Croatian Olympic Committee have already shown their support for this exciting initiative.
According to the mayor, the Thermes project is something that will benefit not just the current generation but future ones too. To make this happen, the mayor secured 17 million euros from external sources, and the rest will be covered by the City of Bjelovar through loans. The mayor reassured everyone that this wouldn’t strain the city budget too much. Currently, the city is only in debt for 20% of what is legally allowed in total borrowing, which is just 4.5% of the original budget. This means the city can manage this project responsibly without putting too much pressure on its finances.
Zvonimir Žarec, the director of Bjelovar Thermes, shared some important details about the spa project. He mentioned that it’s unique in Croatia because it’s a greenfield project, meaning it’s starting from scratch without any existing infrastructure. The spa won’t rely on gas at all and will generate its energy, making it self-sustainable.
Žarec is optimistic about the benefits the spa will bring to our city. He believes that the real advantages will become clear only after the spa is fully built and operational. As for the timeline, he mentioned that the construction work is expected to be completed in about 18 months from the start, which is likely to be in 2026. This means we can look forward to enjoying the benefits of the spa in the coming years.
Mayor Dario Hrebak revealed exciting plans at a press conference about Veliko Korenovo. The City of Bjelovar received 17 million euros for a new swimming pool complex. At the same time, they’re working on the “Garden House” project. This project is like a little tourist village with 35 apartments, a restaurant, and cool features like biological pools. It’ll be right next to the Bjelovat Thermes.
The “Garden House” idea comes from traditional things in our region, like old houses and barns. The apartments will remind us of the past in Bjelovar.
This cool project is worth about 6.6 million euros. They plan to use an ITU mechanism for about 5 million euros, and the City of Bjelovar will cover the rest. Andrea Posarić, the head of the Administrative Department for the ITU mechanism, explained that the project’s main idea is to bring nature back and make a great place for hanging out and having fun. They want to finish it in about two years, keeping an eye on the Bjelovar Thermes construction at the same time.
When they build it, they’ll use natural stuff like wood and brick. They’re even putting a lake in the area, on the old part of Bjelovacka. It sounds like a cool place to visit!
