The Croatian Mountain Rescue Service (HGSS) recently introduced a new web app and interactive map HGSS Hiker’s App. The app is called Sigurnestaze.hr. This tool is designed specifically for people who enjoy hiking and mountain climbing.
With this app, users can create their routes, and explore different terrains, trails, climbing areas, and mountain peaks. What makes it special is that it relies on reliable information from the Register of Mountaineering Routes and Bypasses of the Croatian Mountaineering Association. Additionally, it includes data on trails suitable for hiking and mountaineering collected by the Croatia Mountain Rescue Service during their fieldwork.
The main goal of this app is to encourage active tourism in rural and challenging-to-reach areas. The focus is on improving safety, and the ultimate objective is to provide the most secure and up-to-date information.
The development of this app is the result of the Cartography project, which has been part of HGSS since 2012. Over the years, the project has meticulously mapped more than 70 areas in the Republic of Croatia, with some areas undergoing multiple updates. This dedication and thoroughness reflect the long-term effort invested in the project by HGSS.
