HUM – Ascend to the summit of Hum Hill above Vela Luka along the enchanting HUM path. Inspired by the renowned song “Rojena valo” sung by Oliver Dragojević, a beloved native of Vela Luka, this trail gradually unveils breathtaking views of the Veločka Bay—the very source of inspiration for its lyrical namesake. Reach the pinnacle and be rewarded with a panoramic vista of the sparkling sea and neighboring islands, on clear days even catching a glimpse of Italy’s distant coastline. This path’s historical significance is evident in the remnants of an ancient fort, once honored during the Austro-Hungarian rule.
DUB – Traverse a romantic journey through pristine nature to the abandoned village of Dub. Every step on this path evokes nostalgia, reminding visitors of the importance of cherishing and preserving our surroundings—be it nature, antiquities, or the people we encounter. As a circular hiking trail, it is fully marked for your convenience. Commence your adventure from the Jadrolinija agency along the coast, following the main road past Greben shipyard and onward to Tommy supermarket. From there, the trail veers onto a local asphalt road, leading you towards Hum Hill. After approximately 500 meters, the footpath turns southeast (SE), granting you glimpses of picturesque landscapes and intriguing viewpoints of the village and its surroundings. Once you’ve explored the village of Dub, you can choose to retrace your steps or continue along the alternative section of the circular route.
TRIPORTE – Embark on a captivating journey from the summit of Hum Hill, as the TRIPORTE path guides you southward toward Nova and Slatina coves, culminating in the picturesque Triporte cove. This fully marked hiking trail commences at the Jadrolinija agency, hugging the main road adjacent to Greben shipyard before veering right onto the road encircling the shipyard. After approximately 300 meters, a footpath ascends the hill toward the south (S). Most of the ascent is accompanied by the comforting shade of the forest, making it an ideal choice for summer hikes. After around 45 minutes of climbing, the path intersects a road briefly, offering a splendid vista of the southern islets, Lastovo Island, and extending as far as Italy.
ŽUTA A ROUTE – Begin your journey at the eastern entrance of Vela Luka, near the oil mill and Zlokić ethnographic museum. Traverse olive groves, vineyards, and picturesque karst fields scattered amidst the island’s hills, gradually ascending to a pass that reveals magnificent views of Hvar and Biokovo. Descend through captivating serpentines to the northern coast of Korčula Island, following the route above the sea under the comforting shade of dense pine and oak forests. After a short yet steep climb, emerge above Vela Luka, where a panoramic view of the town awaits. Pass by the renowned Vela Spile archaeological site before descending back into the town.
BLUE ROUTE B – Set off from the edge of Velaluka Bay and navigate the coves along its shores. Leaving the town, you’ll encounter stretches of macadam and several asphalted sections, serving as the foundation for the majority of the route. With minimal ascents, pass by picturesque bays adorned with holiday homes and small beaches perfect for seaside enjoyment. A significant uphill climb awaits at the fifth kilometer, leading to the northern coast where the intricate craftsmanship of dry stone construction mesmerizes. Conclude the route with a couple of kilometers of climbing to the pass above Vela Luka, relishing the panoramic view of the town nestled below.
GREEN ROUTE C – Kickstart this route by following the road toward the future ferry port, transitioning to a local road towards the village of Poplat after the first kilometer on a newly built wide road. Along the southern coast of Velaluka Bay, encounter alluring beaches like Gabrica, Picena, and Lučica. Expect a few shorter macadam sections, but the true challenge awaits beyond Poplat Bay. Over a distance of just over four kilometers, ascend the 376-meter-high Hum Hill, the highest peak in this area of Korčula Island. At the summit, you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views in all directions, including the open sea, Adriatic islands, Dalmatian mountains, and the island of Korčula below.
RED D ROUTE – Commence the route with a slight ascent along a paved road towards the hamlet of Potirna. After three kilometers, turn onto a gravel road that leads past the ancient, now abandoned, village of Dub. Soon, a narrow and captivating single-track trail opens up panoramic views of the islets dotting Korčula’s southern coast. Rejoining the road through Potirna, a steep half-kilometer ascent awaits, guiding you to the most alluring section of the route. Traverse the macadam path through the pine forest, emerging at a vantage point high above the sea, offering a breathtaking view of Veluška Bay. Enjoy a gradual descent through the forest for the final six kilometers, where new vistas of the bay will captivate you along the way.
