Kopački rit is located in eastern Croatia, near the city of Osijek and the confluence of the Drava and Danube rivers. The main entrance is in the village of Kopačevo, about 12 km from Osijek. It’s best reached by car or taxi from Osijek, or by an organized tour. Buses run from Osijek to Bilje, the nearest larger settlement, but the last stretch to the park is easiest by taxi, bike, or on foot. There are no boat connections to the park except for local sightseeing tours on site.
The nearest airport is Osijek Airport (OSI), about 25 km from the park. There are direct flights to Zagreb and some European destinations, especially in summer. From the airport, you can reach Osijek by shuttle bus, taxi, or rental car, and then continue to Kopački rit.
There is no accommodation inside Kopački rit Nature Park, but you’ll find plenty of options in nearby villages like Kopačevo and Bilje, including rural guesthouses, family-run B&Bs, and charming “salaš” farmsteads. Osijek offers hotels, apartments, and hostels for all budgets, only a short drive away. Staying in Osijek gives you easy access to the city’s attractions as well as the park.
Renting a car is the easiest way to reach Kopački rit and explore the surrounding region, including Baranja and Osijek. Car rental agencies are available at Osijek Airport and in the city. Private transfers and taxis can be arranged from Osijek and the airport directly to the park entrance.
The park offers a variety of guided tours—boat trips through the wetlands, birdwatching safaris, cycling, and hiking tours. Book a spot on a traditional wooden boat (“čikla”) for a unique view of the floodplain forests and bird colonies. Nature guides are available in several languages. In spring and autumn, Kopački rit becomes a hotspot for birdwatching, with over 300 species recorded. Excursions can be booked online or at the park’s visitor center.
Mobile coverage in and around Kopački rit is generally good, but some areas of the wetlands may have a weak signal. Croatian SIM cards (A1, bonbon, Telemach) are available in Osijek, at the airport, and in larger shops. eSIM solutions like Airalo or Nomad also work well for most travelers.
Travel insurance is strongly recommended for your trip, especially if you plan outdoor activities. It covers health emergencies, lost luggage, and travel disruptions. Be sure your policy covers nature parks and possible outdoor sports.
