Welcome to a country of stunning natural beauty, ancient history, and some of the most unusual looking islands and capes you’ve ever seen! These islands are like nothing you’ve ever experienced before, with their unique shapes, sizes, and landscapes. Croatia’s islands will certainly leave you awestruck and bewildered in the best way possible.
So buckle up, grab your camera, and get ready to embark on an adventure to the most unusual looking islands and capes in Croatia!
Kraljevac is a small island that lies south of the western part of Čiovo, from which it is about 800 meters away, whose surface is 52,851 m2. The nearest islands are Zaporinovac and Sveta Fumija. According to legend, it was named after Bela IV. who, fleeing from the Mongols, took refuge on the island. Well, isn’t that just the coolest little amoeba-shaped island you’ve ever seen? It’s like nature’s way of reminding us that even the smallest organisms can pack a punch! Who knew an island could be so tiny and yet so mighty?
I bet even the unicellular creatures are jealous of this little guy’s prime real estate location. All jokes aside, it just goes to show that Croatia’s islands never cease to amaze and delight us with their quirks and charms.
Cape Lopata on Dugi otok is located not far from one of the most beautiful and famous Croatian beaches, the Sakarun beach. It is possible to reach the cape from the beach within 10 minutes. Just look at this cape! I mean…it really looks like „lopata“ (eng. Shovel). Now, that’s a cape with a real edge! Who needs a superhero when you’ve got a shovel-shaped cape to protect you from danger? It’s like the universe’s way of saying, “I’ve got your back, Croatia!”
Cape Zaglavić is another cape with an unusual appearance located on Dugi otok. This cape caught our attention with its appearance that reminds us of a young leaf. Looking at the cape from the air, we have the feeling that we have seen a leaf of a plant that has just blossomed.
Babuljaš is one of those irresistible little islands that you simply have to stop at if you are sailing along the Croatian coast. You won’t find any life on the island itself, but the peace you will find will recharge your batteries for the next day. Also, with all that, this is an island that truly reminds us of a piece of chips! Even looking at its texture, we could swear it was Chio’s rib-eye chips!
The island of Ugljan is known for its natural beauty, but this time we were attracted to one of its more special parts. It is an unusual part of the island near Frnaza Bay. As you can see in the photo, this part of the island looks like it is totally trying to separate itself from Ugljan so that it can become an autonomous island. For now, it bears a striking resemblance to an enormous thumb sticking out from the rest of the landscape. We dig it!
The island of Life or Govan was on our list of unusual islands for a slightly different reason than the others. This is a beautiful forested island that looks from the air as if it emerged from a Disney fairy tale. However, the reality is somewhat different and this small island – although its name is Life (cro. Otok Života) – is not teeming with life. Namely, the islet is not inhabited at all.
If you’re looking for a vacation destination that’s off the beaten path and full of surprises, Croatia’s unusual looking islands and capes are definitely worth a visit. From leaf-shaped islands to amoeba-shaped ones, and even a cape that looks like a giant shovel, these quirky natural wonders are sure to leave you with memories that will last a lifetime. Not only will you be amazed by their unique shapes and features, but you’ll also get to enjoy the crystal-clear waters, sandy and rocky beaches, and stunning landscapes that Croatia is known for.
So why not spice up your vacation and take a chance on these unusual islands and capes? Who knows what other surprises you’ll discover along the way!
