Brijuni National Park is a true island escape, offering unspoiled nature, cultural heritage, and a relaxed, exclusive atmosphere. Whether you’re planning a day trip or a longer stay, here’s everything you need to know for a smooth Brijuni adventure—how to get there, where to stay, how to get around, tours, internet, insurance, and more.
Let’s dive into the essentials for your trip to Brijuni with our Travel Resource for Brijuni.
To reach Brijuni, travel first to the charming coastal town of Fažana, just 8 km from Pula in Istria. Regular buses and taxis connect Fažana with Pula and other Istrian towns, and it’s easily accessible by car from the rest of Croatia via the A9/Istrian Y motorway. Once in Fažana, a national park ferry takes you to Veliki Brijun in just 15 minutes. The ferry is operated by Brijuni National Park and tickets are booked in advance, which also includes the entry fee for the park.
The nearest airport is Pula Airport (PUY), located about 15 km from Fažana. Pula Airport is well connected to major European cities, especially in the summer season, with direct flights from London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Vienna, and more. From the airport, it’s a short transfer by taxi or bus to Fažana and the ferry port.
Accommodation on Brijuni is unique and limited, offering a special experience inside the national park. The main options are the historic Hotel Neptun and the charming Villa Lovorka on Veliki Brijun, both with beautiful views and direct access to park attractions. For more choices, stay in Fažana or nearby Pula, where you’ll find everything from boutique hotels and guesthouses to family-run apartments and campsites.
Cars are not allowed on Brijuni Islands. If you wish to explore Istria or travel to Fažana from elsewhere, rent a car at Pula Airport or in other Istrian cities. Transfers from Pula Airport to Fažana are easy to arrange by taxi, private transfer, or public bus. On the island itself, you can rent bicycles, electric golf carts, or join guided tours to get around.
The best way to discover Brijuni is with a guided tour, included in most ferry tickets—these cover the main sights by tourist train, including the Safari Park, Roman ruins, Mediterranean gardens, and museums. For a deeper experience, book a private cycling or walking tour, golf session, or even a sailing excursion around the archipelago. Excursions from Fažana or Pula often include swimming stops and views of smaller islets.
Staying connected is easy: Croatian SIM cards from A1, bonbon, and Telemach are available at Pula Airport, kiosks, and shops in Fažana or Pula. eSIM solutions like Airalo or Nomad are also a convenient choice for instant internet access. Mobile coverage is good on Veliki Brijun, though some remote spots may be patchy.
Travel insurance is highly recommended for your trip to Brijuni and Croatia. It covers unexpected events, health emergencies, lost luggage, and travel interruptions. Choose a trusted provider with coverage for national parks and island destinations.
