Come to Hvar on June 8th and 9th for Croatia’s first-ever human body painting festival – It will be enchanting and inspiring! And most importantly, loads of fun for everyone involved – the artists, the models, and the audience.
This festival, dedicated to World Ocean Day, aims to raise awareness about sea pollution and the harmful effects of microplastics on marine life. The whole event will revolve around the theme of World Ocean Day, highlighting the importance of protecting our oceans and the creatures that call it home.
Body painting is like a magic cloak for the human body, transforming it into a canvas where artists’ imaginations run wild. This ancient art form has roots that stretch back thousands of years, painting stories of different cultures, traditions, and beliefs. Body painting is captivating because it can blur the lines between art and reality. It’s not just about painting on skin; it’s about breathing life into a blank canvas, turning a person into a living masterpiece.
But beyond its aesthetic appeal, body painting holds a deeper significance. It’s a celebration of individuality and self-expression, a bold statement that says, “This is me, in all my colorful glory.” It breaks down barriers, transcending language and cultural boundaries, speaking a universal language of creativity and beauty.
Body painting also has a way of connecting us to nature. Just like a chameleon blends into its surroundings, body painting can mimic the patterns and textures of the natural world, reminding us of our connection to the earth and all its wonders.
But perhaps the most powerful aspect of body painting is its ability to challenge our perceptions. Transforming the human body into something unexpected forces us to question our assumptions and see things from a new perspective. It’s a reminder that beauty comes in all shapes, sizes, and colors, and that true art knows no bounds.
Mark your calendars for June 8th at the famous Veneranda in Hvar. Some of the world’s best body painting artists, including six world champions, will be there! They’ll be competing in categories like sponge and brush, and an open category with airbrushing, stencils, special effects, and camouflage. The prize money for both categories totals 3,500 euros.
And that’s not all! We’ve got a special Children’s Afternoon planned, with fun activities like clown performances, stilt walkers, face painting, piñata surprises, and free ice cream!
Art knows no age limits, so our festival program is designed to delight everyone, from kids to adults. After the competition, we’ll announce the winners and then it’s time to party! Join us for “FISHING OLD SONGS,” a big 80s and 90s-themed bash with a DJ spinning the tunes all night.
On the second day, June 9th, the Festival heads to the stunning Galešnik islet. It is the first of the Hell’s Islands chain, right at the entrance to Hvar’s harbor. This spot offers one of the most beautiful views of Hvar.
At Galešnik, there’ll be more model drawing, an underwater photoshoot, free diving with experts, cleaning up the sea by removing waste, and trying out e-foil boards. For the grand finale party, the team heads back to Hvar, to the famous Carpe Diem Bar.
Last year, Hvar hosted its first body painting weekend with world-renowned artists. It’s grown into a festival this year, drawing even more artists. Five from Italy, two masters each from South Korea and Austria, a guest artist from Mexico. Also, representatives from Greece, Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, and Poland will all be there.
Entrance to all Festival events, both days of the Festival, is free!
