Kvarner: Perfect place for a healthy vacation

Kvarner is the name for the beautiful part of the Croatian coast that stretches from the Rijeka Riviera to Karlobag. Kvarner, in addition to Rijeka and its coast, also includes the Opatija coast, Vinodol (Crikvenica coast) and the Podvelebit coast.

Why do we think that Kvarner is the perfect destination for your next vacation?

There are countless reasons, but we will summarize it briefly in one sentence: Kvarner is an area where you will find historical buildings and cultural assets standing next to the most beautiful beaches, excellent restaurants, parks for walking and educational trails. In addition, Kvarner is known as an area with many facilities for families with children, but it is also – pet friendly!

Kvarner places you need to visit

You should definitely take the time to visit the islands of Cres and Krk, as well as the cities of Rijeka and Opatija. These are places where you will definitely find something that will delight you, and we have selected our favorite places for you.

Cres

The beautiful island of Cres is an ideal place for peaceful rest and relaxation with the best beaches and crystal sea. However, what caught our attention was neither the sea nor the beaches, but the Visitor’s Center and the recovery center for the Beli griffon vultures.

Namely, the Visitor Center on the ground floor offers a multimedia exhibition about griffon vultures and the life of the inhabitants of Tramuntana in Cres (the northern part of the island of Cres). There are occasional photography exhibitions and various workshops for children, and interesting information about the significance and work of the recovery center for griffon vultures that operates within the Center can be found there.

Krk

The city center of Krk is an essential destination if you decide to visit the island of Krk. Here you will see preserved Frankopan castles (a symbol of medieval heritage). On the west side of Kramplin square is the cathedral and the church of St. Quirina, which preserve a rich inventory of Venetian stylistic characteristics in their interior.

Near the northern city gate of Porta Su, there is the Glagolitic Square, where Franciscans, Benedictines and Benedictines once lived, whose monasteries are still preserved. There are also numerous galleries and museums that you can visit every weekday.

And when you get tired of sightseeing, relax on Oprna Beach, which many consider one of the most peaceful beaches in Krk. If you don’t need the hustle and bustle of the city and countless amenities and just want to enjoy the smell of the sea – this is definitely the beach for you!

Rijeka

Although the city of Rijeka is known for its many sights within the city itself, today we decided to take you to a different place. Instead of walking between city facades, this time you could visit the Učka nature park. It is an ideal place for a healthy holiday. You will have the full experience of Učka if you start on foot on one of the many marked trails that start all over the Opatija Riviera. (If you don’t think you’re fit for it, you can always drive to the Visitor Center and enjoy the brilliant display that guides you through the legends and wildlife of Učka.)

Depending on the point of departure, the hike takes several hours. You can also go to the mountain by bike, on the road that leads from Rijeka, via Matulje. There is also the educational children’s trail, if you decide to visit Učka in the company of your children.

Opatija

Opatija is one of those cities that you always return to, no matter how many times you visit them. The combination of perfect architecture, luxury, history and perfectly arranged parks is a real eye-catcher. The central city park, a true horticultural monument, is adorned with 150 plant species from all over the world, of which the Japanese camellia has become a symbol of the city.

In addition to the park, the riviera also offers a view of Opatija’s oldest building, the church of St. Jakov from the 15th century, after whose monastery (cro. opatija) the town of Opatija was named. We can safely say that Opatija is one of the most romantic cities on the Croatian coast, so we would recommend it to all couples in love. We heard that Valentine’s Day in Opatija is particularly beautiful.

Pet friendly Kvarner

Yes, you read that right – Kvarner has become known as a paradise for pets!

In many locations you can find wonderful beaches and cafes for dogs, and there are also numerous events in which your furry muzzles can participate. Of course, we must not leave out apartments and hotels that specialize in accommodating owners who take pets on vacation.

There is Monty`s Dog Beach & Bar (café for dogs), which is located in Crikvenica and Rab and is famous for being one of the most famous and best beaches for dogs in Croatia. As this café is primarily intended for pets, be sure that your pooch will find something he will like from the wide range of dog ice creams, chips, beer (liquid extract of beef and chicken) and treats.
