Crikvenica’s Masquerade Ball kicks off the festivities on January 13 with a traditional masquerade party in Matkovići. In the afternoon, various masquerade groups from Crikvenica and its surroundings will come together for a joyous gathering filled with music, dancing, and fun. As the day goes on, there will be a special moment where the masqueraders receive the keys to the city, showing that they are in charge of Crikvenica for a little while. This change is celebrated by raising a masquerade flag, getting ready for a night of joy and fun.
A week later, on January 20, there’s another exciting masquerade party hosted by the Association for the Preservation of Folk Customs “Duga” in the afternoon. Then, on January 27, the main entertainment hub shifts to a lively masquerade tent on Trg Stjepan Radić in Crikvenica, starting from 9 p.m. The tent will feature awesome performances by the bands “Grooversi” and “Fortunal.”
The highlight of the “Masquerade” celebration, like every year, is the Children’s and Grand processions on Sunday, January 28. The Children’s parade kicks off at 11 a.m., followed by the Grand parade at 2 p.m. After the parades, the party continues in a masked tent with fantastic performances by musical ensembles “Koktelsi” and “Point.”
For tourists, this means a week filled with lively events, music, and colorful parades, offering a unique and unforgettable experience in Crikvenica. Join in the fun, soak up the festive atmosphere, and enjoy the vibrant traditions of the “Masquerade” celebration!
Get ready for a fun time during Crikvenica’s Masquerade Ball week! On Saturday, February 3, at 4:00 p.m., there’s a special treat for dart enthusiasts – the “Masquerade Darts Tournament” in the tent. The evening will be extra lively with the always cheerful Jole and the band “Trend” providing entertainment.
Don’t forget to be part of the baptism of Mesopust – it’s an event you won’t want to miss!
For little ones to have a blast with the “Masquerade” program, a tea party, games, and entertainment are planned on Sunday, February 4.
Join the masked fun that also celebrates the Chakavian language! On February 7 at 5 p.m., head to Zvonka Cara elementary school for the “Chakavian masquerade zapolne” event, where students will showcase their talents through recitations, songs, dances, and acting. It’s a unique experience promoting local culture and language during Crikvenica’s Masquerade Ball festivities.
On the final Saturday of masquerade fun, February 10, join a masquerade walk along Ljubavna cestica in the morning. It is followed by a social gathering in Gornji Kraj in the afternoon.
As Clean Wednesday approaches, the tradition involves reading a sentence in the city center. Then, it’s time to condemn Merik, the one blamed for all the bad things in the past year, and burn him. Join in this unique tradition on February 14 at 4 p.m.
Aside from the exciting Crikvenica’s Masquerade Ball celebrations, the town has lots more to offer visitors.
